You may have heard that Letterboxd is looking to sell. We'd like to make sure it stays good. Would you like to help and own a piece of it with us? We're running a crowdfunding campaign.
WefunderAnd if you're not particularly interested in the whole co-ownership thing, you can also donate.
Seed&SparkIntrinsic Entertainment Collaborative, a public benefit company devoted to developing and deploying new business models for independent filmmakers is spearheading a community-led campaign to buy a majority stake in Letterboxd.
In 2023, Canadian holding company Tiny acquired 60% of Letterboxd. Tiny is now selling that stake, putting the future of Letterboxd at risk.
Letterboxd has become the equivalent of a public utility for film: a place that offers everything from studio tentpoles to micro-indies a place to find their audience, and for fans to watch hard-to-find films.
Intrinsic believes Letterboxd should be stewarded by artists for the benefit of filmmakers and fans. That is why we are leading a campaign to buy a majority stake in Letterboxd and do right by investors, artists, and the industry we love.
We are organizing a multi-tiered fundraising campaign to purchase a majority stake in Letterboxd using a cooperative ownership model, with participation channels through equity and non-equity crowdfunding and angel investment, to bring together people and organizations who want to collaboratively improve the future of filmmaking. We see good things coming.
